Pizzarova becomes first UK company to launch reusable pizza box deposit scheme
Bristol’s sourdough pizza chain, Pizzarova, announced its latest sustainability initiative, becoming the first restaurant in the UK to introduce a reusable pizza box deposit scheme.
Made from 100% recycled plastic, the boxes breathe new life into old materials and can be rented free of charge for seven days or purchased for just £9.95 by valued customers. People who rent a box can simply return it for a full refund of their deposit, making it easy and affordable to support the environment.
Starting out at Pizzarova’s flagship restaurant on Gloucester Road, the scheme will soon be rolled out across the chain’s remaining three Bristol locations.
The initiative, delivered in partnership with PIZZycle GmbH which supplies the boxes, aligns with Pizzarova’s commitment to delivering delicious pizzas without detriment to the environment. Indeed, the scheme should reduce the amount of single-use plastic that ends up in landfills.
As the chain celebrates 11 years of serving Bristol and its surroundings, the company is taking significant steps towards sustainability, consolidating its position as one of the UK’s top 50 pizza restaurants.
Kieran Reynolds, Head of Sustainability at Pizzarova, said “We’re thrilled to pioneer this reusable pizza box scheme. At Pizzarova, our focus on sustainability revolves around making everyday wins in energy use, waste reduction and packaging. These new boxes are a small yet significant step towards a greener future”.
Jack Lander, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Pizzarova agrees, stating “Pizza, people and the planet are at the heart of everything we do at Pizzarova. Introducing the UK’s first reusable pizza box scheme is a natural progression in our mission to deliver great food with minimal environmental impact and we’re excited to see our customers embrace this change”.
Starting out in 2013 with a mobile pizza oven in a converted Land Rover, Pizzarova has always been a pioneer in the food industry. The brand quickly grew in popularity, leading to the opening of four permanent locations across Bristol.
Pizzarova’s commitment to using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients and offering a casual, welcoming dining experience has made it a particular favourite with both tourists and locals.
Early adopters of the reusable box scheme have already shared positive feedback, with one customer commenting “It’s a brilliant idea! Not only does it help reduce waste, but the boxes are sturdy and keep the pizza fresh for longer”.
Pizzarova continues to serve its signature sourdough for dine-in, click-and-collect and delivery, whilst also catering for large events.
