Less than six months into its year-long charity partnership with Alzheimer Scotland, local home and body care business ARRAN Sense of Scotland (formerly Arran Aromatics) has exceeded its £10,000 fundraising target for the charity’s annual Memory Walk.
The company, which is best known for its signature scent After the Rain, organised a string of fundraising activities engaging customers and staff, to help reach the milestone in double quick timing. Aptly, it was an 8km Memory Walk with over 30 colleagues around the Isle of Arran in the driving rain that pushed them past the total, demonstrating that after the rain, comes a rainbow.
The funds raised will go towards Alzheimer Scotland’s vital work with those living with dementia and provide support for their friends, families, and carers. Including projects such as the Tipi project – a woodland therapy initiative that enables groups of people with dementia to come together in a woodland Tipi and take part in activities, learn new skills and discover the therapeutic benefit of nature.
Kevin Meechan, CEO at ARRAN Sense of Scotland said:
“On behalf of everyone here at ARRAN Sense of Scotland, I am overjoyed that we have already met and exceeded our fundraising total for Alzheimer Scotland. Aside from the obvious benefits to the charity, taking part in our very own Memory Walk on the Isle of Arran allowed us to experience our shared purpose of connecting with nature, while helping to raise awareness of such an important cause.
“Dementia is a cause close to the hearts of some of our colleagues, so I couldn’t be prouder of everyone for taking part and for all their fundraising efforts over the last few months. It feels truly humbling to know the difference our contribution will make to the lives of many.”
Caroline Miller, Lead for Stakeholder Engagement at Alzheimer Scotland:
“We are extremely proud of this partnership here at Alzheimer Scotland and, with our shared purpose of helping the world connect with nature, are already making a real difference to the lives of people living with dementia who have been devastated by the pandemic.
“The Memory Walk has been a resounding success this year and it’s entirely down to the commitment from our supporters. We have raised over £105,000 and counting which we are really pleased with for a virtual event.
“All of our local support from our Dementia Advisors, to our community groups and therapeutic exercises are funded entirely from fundraised income so the contribution from ARRAN Sense of Scotland will make a huge impact on the lives of the people we support.”
Despite the target being reached, fundraising activities will continue throughout the next 12 months, along with other initiatives that will raise awareness of what life is like for those living with dementia. ARRAN Sense of Scotland’s staff have also taken part in training to become Dementia Friends, as the company works to become a more Dementia Friendly business.
