The Covid19 pandemic has left many unable to travel out of the UK this summer and devastated much of the hospitality industry but one groundbreaking, outdoor, collaboration is making sure that staycations will be an option of choice for many, long after this unforgettable year is behind us.
In a fresh burst of hope, opportunity, collaboration and inspiration the Cadland Estate, of the New Forest, Hampshire, today announced they’re teaming up with The Pop Up Hotel to create a magnificent, transient, glamping experience and restaurant on a seaview site of extraordinary beauty; The Pop Up at Cadland.
The Pop Up Hotel, founded by Mark Sorrill, is considered one of the leading experiential hotel providers in the UK. They have been operating their world class, transient, pop up hotels and restaurants at globally recognised public and private events for nearly a decade.
The Cadland Estate is a historic and untouched seaside gem, positioned in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Tucked away on the shores of the English Coast, surrounded by the New Forest, (only 1.5 hours by car or train from London) Cadland is owned by the Drummond’s and has been in the family since 1772. Throughout its history Cadland has hosted some of the world’s most notable historical figures from King George III, Admiral Nelson and Napoleon III. The Estate’s rolling fields, idyllic shoreline, view over Cowes and the Solent’s sailing, with beautiful gardens, (designed by ‘England’s Greatest Gardener’, Capability Brown), combine to make Cadland a truly majestic wonder on the very edge of England.
This breathtaking conservation coastal collaboration has services and facilities that set it apart from any other glamping experience you’ll find in the UK this summer, this is far more than glamping in a beautiful location.
From the comfort of their plush canvas tents, guests will be able to access (contact free), room service via their phone. A tantalising menu has been created by celebrity chef Luke Thomas, using only the very best, local, sustainable, ingredients from New Forest suppliers and Cadland’s own Kitchen Garden. This delicious menu (as well as cocktails, drinks, coffee and takeaway options) will be served from dawn until late everyday, with guests and locals also given the option to enjoy a sit down, socially distanced, formal feast in the evenings, with the seaview and Cadland cut flowers to ease the senses.
Expect to find dishes like smacked cucumber & crispy duck dressed in pomegranate hoi-sin, wood fired spiced roast Cauliflower caesar or a dry aged chuck-steak burger loaded with local crab and oozing smoked Lyburn Forest farm cheese. There will be freshly shucked rock oysters, wine from the local Hampshire vineyard and locally farmed meat cooked on an open-fire overlooking the Solent. Children’s cooking classes will be available at the weekends around a wood-fired oven where they will learn about local foraging and produce whilst cooking homemade pizzas.
As you may expect there is not an airbed or sleeping bag in sight at The Pop Up at Cadland. The beautiful canvas tents all contain a real mattress, fresh crisp linen, fluffy towels, toiletries and breathtaking sea views of the Solent from many of the tents on site. There are some nods to the traditional camping experience with shoreside campfires and impeccably sanitised shared facilities but those looking for a slightly larger slice of luxury can upgrade to an Emperor, Safari or Tenthouse Suite. The latter includes up to three double/twin bedrooms, a proper bed and high-quality linens, as well as a huge stylish living / dining area with real furniture and en-suite, in tent, shower room.
Cadland Estate also boasts beautiful views over to the Isle of Wight shoreline and Cowes. Owing to its location guests have access to a vast array of local water sport activities including sailing, paddle boarding, canoeing and windsurfing. Those who prefer to keep their feet firmly on dry land will also be spoiled for choice with nature and conservation walks, the New Forest on their doorstep, local attractions, the restaurant and beach cabanas.
On the collaboration The Pop Up Hotel founder Mark Sorrill said “The second I set eyes on Cadland’s natural clifftop fields and canopied beach it blew me away. Such breathtaking beauty so close to London, makes this an ideal spot for a pop up hotel and restaurant. The site is large enough for us to cater for everyone in a safe and social distanced way, whether that is for a unique family get away, a romantic break for two or friends having an adventure after months of isolation. We have enough space here at Cadland to make sure it’s an incredible experience for all. For the restaurant to have access to such superb locally sourced, sustainable ingredients to create an exquisite culinary experience will also undoubtedly make this a truly spectacular and unforgettable occasion for anyone attending.”
Cadland Estate owner Fiona Dummond added “We are delighted to launch The Pop Up at Cadland and really excited to share our special coast and idyll with guests and our local community over the summer. Cadland is a haven for nature and wildlife, with a lifestyle lived from the woods to the sea. Having the opportunity to wake up and paddle board, before enjoying a delicious breakfast, whilst looking out over the Solent and its sails, or watch the kids play on the beach whilst enjoying a coffee from a tent or cabana …. before you even contemplate which of the many local water sports or activities we’ve made available to take part in that day (or not!). It is a pretty extraordinary way to spend an English summer day, and I’m glad to be able to create and share this experience with those who seek it. Bringing together the very best of Cadland’s Kitchen Garden produce, from our cut flowers through to our local Solent food and fresh produce is a complete joy – from doorstep caught Solent Crab and Lobster to our New Forest raised and grazed meats, for use at our Pop Up Cadland Restaurant – it is a wonderful way to showcase all our incredible local suppliers and healthy beachy wild New Forest lifestyle. I have no doubt that our beaches and wooded coastline will create some wonderful, long lasting memories for our guests and local community in a beautiful, sustainable and tranquil environment this summer”
