Robert Wilson’s Ceylon Tea

Product tested by Margaret: Yes

Our main input is into Ceylon teas but we also import direct from India to Colombo two single estate teas.
The range of teas includes single estate black, green and white loose teas plus tea bags, we do not blend.
Whilst we maintain a mail order facility for areas that cannot obtain the teas from trade outlets and for the international market, we also supply the trade, whether stores or tea shops wishing to source unusual teas.

We work with two interesting and high quality Organic certified estates, one of which is community owned and certified for both Biodynamic as well as Organic production.
We also stock a very special range of hand crafted gifts by our local craftsman in Sri Lanka whose skill has been developed over many generations from the time of the Sinhalese Kings.

Ethical and Environment Policies

With 170 years of working in Sri Lanka (Ceylon), we have a passion for quality and ethical procurement. Paying above the auction price for such specially manufactured teas helps the estates to reinvest for the future.
Fair Trade marketing has become a popular marketing tool in the commercial world but because the Government own the estate lands, the Government provides a very high standard of worker welfare facilities and Fair Trade organisations do not contribute funds to the estates. A comprehensive explanation about Fairtrade operation and the wages structure of the estate workers can be found on our Website. The estate workers have benefited from large wage increases over the last ten years and have a very high level of welfare provision.
As a part of our ‘ethical’ policy we use design and packing plant in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) thus contributing further to the industry and the local economy. In the U.K. we merely maintain a storage facility which has virtually no impact on the environment and any impact is more than offset by an established woodland area managed by the business.

Awards & Tours

We are I think understandably passionate about our teas and the island of Sri Lanka, the teas have been awarded a total of 44 Taste Awards in the U.K. which underlines their quality and in in 2005 we were honoured with ‘Speciality Importer of the Year’ by the Guild of Fine Food.
